Grow With Us: Board & Volunteer Opportunities
at Paws for Humanity
People Helping Animals Helping People
Six years ago, this simple mission took root on a farm in Three Oaks. Today, Paws for Humanity is home to alpacas, horses, donkeys, goats, chickens, ducks, barn cats, and three Great Pyrenees dogs. We've grown into something bigger than we imagined—a true sanctuary where animals find peace and people find healing. The recognition from the Howard T. Petrie Trust confirms what we already know: we're ready for our next chapter.
We're passionate about this work. We love what we do and the community we serve. But we're also clear-eyed about what comes next. To manage our growth sustainably, reach our full potential, and ensure Paws for Humanity thrives long into the future, we need to bring in the expertise and energy that will carry us forward. We want people who are no less passionate about the mission but who bring skills and perspectives that complement our own—people ready to help us build something that lasts.
Join Our Board of Directors
Our board meets quarterly, with occasional additional involvement as needed. The commitment is real but manageable. The impact is immeasurable. We're seeking individuals with expertise in:
Management & Operations – Help us develop systems and processes that support sustainable growth while maintaining the heart of what makes this sanctuary special.
Financial Expertise – Guide our fiscal health, strategic planning, and resource allocation to ensure we're here for decades to come.
Development & Communications – Strengthen our fundraising capacity, expand our reach, and tell our story in ways that inspire support and engagement.
Animal & People Care – Deepen our impact in animal welfare and community connection, ensuring our programs serve both animals and people with excellence.
If you're ready to help shape the future of Paws for Humanity, reach out to beth@pawsforhumanity.org.
(Volunteer) Leadership Positions
Beyond the board, we need hands-on leaders who can dedicate time to keep our sanctuary running smoothly and our mission moving forward. These positions require weekly involvement and offer the chance to make a tangible difference every single day. We believe a volunteer (or small group of volunteers) could be invaluable with the right experience to help structure these positions, and we are also aware that they may need to become paid positions given the need for the consistent weekly time commitment needed.
Facilities/Operations Manager
If you have a farming background or experience managing agricultural operations, we need you. Oversee the care and maintenance of our barns, grounds, and facilities. This role involves coordinating feed orders and deliveries for our diverse animal family (alpacas, horses, donkeys, goats, chickens, ducks, and more), scheduling and managing service providers for maintenance projects, and ensuring our barns and pastures remain safe, functional, and welcoming. You'll develop and implement processes that keep everything running like clockwork while maintaining the serene environment our animals deserve.
Volunteer Coordinator
Recruit, train, schedule, and support our volunteer team. You'll match volunteers with opportunities that fit their skills and interests, oversee daily activities like feeding and animal care, and create a welcoming culture that keeps people coming back. This role is perfect for someone who loves connecting with people as much as they love animals.
Social Media & Communications Manager
Tell our story to the world. Manage our social media presence, create engaging content that showcases our animals and programs, handle our newsletter and email communications, and help us build deeper connections with our community. You'll capture the magic of what happens here and share it in ways that inspire others to get involved.
Development & Fundraising Coordinator
Drive the resources that fuel our mission. Develop and implement fundraising strategies, manage donor relationships, coordinate giving campaigns, identify grant opportunities, and help us build sustainable revenue streams. Your work will directly support the animals in our care and the programs that serve our community.
Why Paws for Humanity?
This isn't just volunteer work—it's a chance to be part of something meaningful. You'll work alongside animals who have found their forever home, contribute to programs that genuinely help people heal, and be part of a team that takes this work seriously while never losing the joy in it. Our location in Three Oaks offers a peaceful, beautiful setting where you can do work that matters. Plus, where else can you hold a board meeting with alpacas grazing in the background or develop a fundraising strategy while a friendly barn cat supervises?
We're building something that will outlast us all. We're committed to this community, to these animals, and to the simple but powerful idea that when we care for animals, they care for us right back. If you're ready to be part of that, we're ready for you.
